Places I Really Want to Visit #5
Skaftafell National Park, Iceland
I am hoping to get to Iceland this summer, and one of the first places I want to visit is Skaftafell National Park. Pictured above is Svartifoss, a waterfall that formed from volcanic eruptions. Pictured below is Morsarjokull glacier. I have a picture of Svartifoss as the background for my blog, and I have a picture of Svartifoss taken from a still of Bon Iver’s Holocene as my phone background. It is safe to say that I have been an admirer of Skaftafell National Park for a long time now, and I can’t wait to be there.
In the summer you can camp on the outskirts of the park, then hike various trails during the day. There are rivers, glaciers, lakes and waterfalls to see all over the park, and tons of animals and other wildlife. I will definitely have to bring my notebook with me though. When I travel, I can normally remember names of places and important information by memory, but Icelandic names are ridiculous and there is no way I will remember that the nearby town is called Kirkjubaejarklasutur and the tallest peak is Hvannadalshnukur.
